๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ผ Learning Taiwanese Mandarin as a Beginner: Essential Videos to Build Confidence with Natural Input

Congratulations on taking the first step towards speaking Taiwanese Mandarin fluently!

Your goal is to be able to Speak Conversational Taiwanese Mandarin with your friends or family? You wish to be able to improve tones and learn natural vocabulary? Itโ€™s not only achievable but can also be a fun and rewarding journey with the right direction and materials.

๐Ÿค”๏ธ When Can I Be Fluent? How long would it take?

First and foremost, you donโ€™t need to be โ€œperfectโ€ to start speaking. Even as a beginner, you can already have simple conversations with native speakers. All it takes is courage to speak up. Youโ€™ll learn from errors and corrections:)

For a beginner, being able to carry a simple conversation can take anywhere from 4 months to a year with full commitment. This includes studying for about an hour a day and incorporating lots of passive learning, such as watching dramas or movies. (my honest opinion is - be patient, language learning is a marathon; the process is magical. Iโ€™m still learning new words every day.)

๐Ÿ”ŠThe Underrated Power of Input in Speaking Fluently

One crucial point to remember is that input is everything. Your language input should be natural and authentic, not just textbook material. This means you need to listen extensively to how native speakers actually communicate. Pay attention to the vocabulary, phrases, and expressions they use in everyday conversations.

This step is often undervalued by learners, but it's essential for building a solid foundation. Think of it like fueling a plane before takeoff; you need ample input to soar.

In my Conversation Training Course, I emphasize that natural input helps you grow in confidence and reduces fear. Listening to native speakers will also significantly improve your pronunciation and tones. Just like how you learned your native language as a baby through listening, you should constantly surround yourself with natural conversations in Taiwanese Mandarin.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Overcoming Beginnerโ€™s Fear

Starting to speak a new language can be intimidating, but the earlier you start, the more confidence you will build.

Again, you really don't need to be perfect. You can already speak with native speakers even with errors. I've seen many learners strive for perfection, only to become stuck and lose confidence, despite having studied Mandarin for a long time.

Remember, youโ€™re like a baby learning a new languageโ€”it's a natural and enjoyable process. Watch, listen, and observe how native speaker actually speaks, and immerse yourself in the experience.
